En la presente fotografía en vuelo se puede observar como rasgos característicos del ostrero pardo (Haematopus palliatus) una incipiente banda alar blanca, tapadas alares blancas y zona ventral blanca.
Como aspecto intermedio a ambas especies la rabadilla es parda con manchas blancas.
