Nepal

General Information

Nepal is located in southern Asia, bordered to the north by the People´s Republic of China and to the south, east, and west by India. Its geographical location is unique, as it stretches from the plains of the Ganges Valley to the highest mountains in the world, including eight of the fourteen highest peaks on the planet. The country has an area of approximately 147,181 square kilometers and a population of around 30 million people. The capital and largest city is Kathmandu, which is located in the Kathmandu Valley, a fertile and densely populated region. Nepal is a country with great geographical diversity, including mountains, hills, valleys, and plains, which gives rise to a variety of ecosystems and environments. The mountainous region of the Himalayas, which includes some of the highest peaks in the world, is one of the most remote and inaccessible areas of the country. In contrast, the southern plains, known as the Terai, are more accessible and densely populated.

The most common way to access Nepal is through Kathmandu´s international airport, which receives flights from all over the world. From there, buses, taxis, or planes can be taken to reach other parts of the country. The roads in Nepal can be narrow and winding, especially in the mountainous areas, and traffic can be intense in urban areas. However, the road network is constantly improving, making it easier to access many parts of the country. The trails and paths for hiking and trekking are abundant in Nepal, and offer an excellent way to explore the country´s nature and culture. Some of the most popular places for nature observation include Chitwan and Bardia National Parks, which are located in the south of the country and are known for their biodiversity and natural beauty.

The climate in Nepal varies depending on the region and altitude. The southern plains have a subtropical climate, with hot and humid summers, and mild winters. The mountains are cooler, with frequent snowfall in winter and lower temperatures throughout the year. The best time to visit Nepal depends on the activities you want to do. The dry season, which runs from October to May, is the best time for trekking and hiking, while the wet season, which runs from June to September, is better for observing nature and wildlife. It is essential to note that some areas of Nepal may be closed during the wet season due to rain and landslides.

The tourist infrastructure in Nepal is well-developed, with a variety of accommodation and food options available in the larger cities and towns. However, in more remote areas, the infrastructure can be more limited, and it is essential to plan ahead and bring sufficient supplies. The permits and regulations for outdoor activities in Nepal vary depending on the region and activity. It is crucial to research and obtain the necessary permits before undertaking any activity. In general, Nepal is a country with great natural beauty and a rich culture, offering many opportunities for nature observation and exploration of the country´s geographical and environmental diversity.
