El dimorfismo sexual se destaca por la presencia en los machos de una aleta pélvica modificada y son mas delgados que las hembras.
Cnesterodon raddai descripta por Meyer & Etzel, 2001, sita que esta especie cuenta con 2 a 4 manchas negras en la mitad posterior de forma redondeadas.
