Su comportamiento es típico de los varilleros, aunque se mueven particularmente bajo. Casi no suben por encima del límite de la hierba, a no ser que tengan que desplazarse lejos, y no se exponen mucho. Buscan comida por el piso mientras un grupo se queda por encima, cantando y vigilando. Los que están abajo son prácticamente invisibles, salvo por pequeños saltos que dan para moverse.
