Formosa Province is located in northeastern Argentina, in the Gran Chaco region. It borders Paraguay to the north and east, largely separated from it by the Pilcomayo and Paraguay rivers; to the south, it borders Chaco Province, and to the west, Salta Province.

The provincial capital is the city of Formosa, located on the western bank of the Paraguay River, opposite Paraguayan territory. The city is the main urban center and an important access point to the province.

Formosa´s territory is characterized by extensive plains with little variation in elevation and a significant presence of natural environments associated with rivers, streams, marshes, wetlands, lagoons, savannas, and forested areas. The main waterways include the Paraguay, Pilcomayo, and Bermejo rivers, as well as numerous inland aquatic environments.

The province can be accessed by road through several national highways connecting Formosa with Chaco and Salta provinces and with international border crossings into Paraguay. The city of Formosa also has an airport, while provincial roads and highways provide access to towns and natural areas throughout the territory.

For nature observation, it is important to consider that distances between towns can be considerable and that many natural environments are located outside the main urban centers. Access to certain sites may involve unpaved roads or depend on weather conditions, particularly during rainy periods. Therefore, when visiting natural areas far from the cities, it is advisable to check road conditions and accessibility in advance.

The province´s diversity of environments provides opportunities for observing birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants in different parts of the territory. Protected areas and environments associated with the province´s major rivers and wetlands are among the sites of greatest interest for nature observation.
