El Zorro Gris Chileno de esta región boscosa, presenta varias diferencias con el Zorro Gris de Argentina (Lycalopex gymnocercus) del norte y (Lycalopex griseus) de Patagonia. En primer lugar es un animal de bosque, mientras que el gris de Patagonia es estrictamente de estepa y el gris del norte es más plástico, pero se distribuye más ampliamente por zonas áridas. En cuanto a su apariencia, recuerda en su pelaje al Zorro Chilote (Lycalopex fulvipes), pero con otro formato, patas mucho mas largas.
