Ambos sexos avistados. Esta especie es endémica de Argentina, en las provincias de San Juan, Mendoza y Neuquén, entre 1800 y 3000 msnm. Anteriormente se consideró que habitaba en Chile, pero luego se demostró que los ejemplares de la zona correspondían a otras especies diferentes. En 2015, se acordó que el taxón P. palluma nunca ha existido para el territorio nacional chileno.
