Especie de distribución cosmopolita, muy común bajo las piedras cercanas a cursos de agua.

Hay dos especies del género citadas para Argentina. En el trabajo "The Dermaptera of the Caribbean" (http://repository.naturalis.nl/document/550010) se explica cómo diferenciarlas, y además dice que L. xanthopus es exclusiva de y reemplaza a L. riparia en el norte de Sudamérica.
