Este es el nido real en donde se incubaron los huevos. El tero utiliza la táctica del "falso nido", es decir que deja sigilosamente el nido real y se coloca en otro sitio a empollar, para desorientar a sus enemigos naturales, en especial al carancho, del que huye rápidamente simulando abandonar el nido. Es muy cuidadoso de sus pichones y realiza vuelos rasantes sobre los que se acercana ellos.
