Current situation: This new form of Grassquit has recently been described as a color variation of the Cinnamon Grassquit (Sporophila hypoxantha) (Areta and Repenning, 2011).

Description: It has the same color pattern as S. cinnamomea but with the colors of S. hypoxantha, both on the belly and crown. Ash-colored crown, black wings with a white wing band, black tail; back, rump, and ventral areas are cinnamon.
