Synonyms: Nephila clavipes.

Description: A large spider with striking coloration. It is one of the most well-known species within its distribution due to the enormous yellow-green webs they construct.

Sexual Dimorphism: Females are several times larger than males and have a larger abdomen. When the female is oviparous, the abdomen increases in size even more until the eggs are laid. Due to their large size, it is more common to observe females of this species than males.

Habitat: Rainforests and humid forests. This species has adapted to live in parks and gardens with abundant vegetation.

Geographical Distribution: North and northeast of the country. Very abundant in the Missionary jungle as well as in the islands of the Buenos Aires Delta. Over the last few decades, it has become a common species in the city of Buenos Aires.

Behavior: Sedentary, they build large webs that can reach several meters in length, where they wait for their prey. It is common to see cleptoparasitic spiders on their webs, which feed on the prey that gets caught in the web, usually cutting the section of the web where the chosen prey is located in order to consume it.

Feeding: Flying insects that get trapped in their web, occasionally consuming species of large size.
