There are 18 species of Psorophora cited for Argentina, and of those, 11 are present in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When publishing a species sheet, it should be clarified how the specimens were differentiated from the other species. Del Ponte, Castro, and Garcia published a key in 1951.According to Belkin et al. (1970), what is called P. ciliata in Argentina and neighboring countries may actually belong to a different species than the one found further north on the continent. But until more studies examine the issue in detail, P. ciliata remains the official name for these specimens.Comment by: Lucas Rubio
