Conservation status according to BirdLife International: Vulnerable

Previously considered a subspecies of the Sharp-beaked Ground Finch (Geospiza difficilis). Famous for feeding on the blood of other birds, such as the Nazca Booby (Sula granti), although this is not its main diet since it develops this behavior during the dry season, while in the wet season it feeds on seeds and small invertebrates (del Hoyo et al., 2020). It has a curved culmen and mandible compared to the Sharp-beaked Ground Finch. While it is similar to other species such as the Small Ground Finch (Geospiza fuliginosa), the Sharp-beaked Ground Finch, and the Genovesa Ground Finch (Geospiza acutirostris), there is no possibility of confusion since it is the only one that inhabits Darwin and Wolf. Monotypic.

Geographic Distribution: Darwin and Wolf (del Hoyo et al., 2020).

Description extracted from: La Grotteria (2023).
