Records from El Pinar

Description: It has a robust body. It has been observed that adult specimens from colder climates are larger (12 to 14mm). It has reddish eyes, orange-colored cheeks, and three-segmented antennae, with the last one visibly feathery. The thorax is dull gray, and the abdomen has the last three segments in metallic blue, with black spots and whitish reflections. It displays a large number of setae all over the body. The wings rest in a "V" shape.

Habitat: It is common in urban environments, with a more abundant presence in colder seasons.

Scientific importance: These flies are important in the field of forensic entomology, as they are one of the insect species whose consistent time of arrival and body colonization after death helps determine the time of death.

Geographical distribution: Urban areas of Europe and America, in widespread dispersion.

Behavior: It moves with short flights, quick turns, and noticeable buzzing. It lays its eggs on fresh carrion or open wounds, being more active and efficient than other species in cold climates.
