Subspecies:


Description: It is the largest of all Formicariids. It has a long and thick bill, a long tail; black crown and crest; gray face, cheeks, nape, and ventral side; back, wings, and tail black barred with white. The female is cinnamon-colored with a rufous crown.

Geographic Distribution within Argentina:
Batara cinerea cinerea Shipton, 1918: Misiones.
Batara cinerea argentina Vieillot, 1816: Jujuy, Salta, and Tucumán.

Habitat: Forests.

Feeding: Arthropods and invertebrates.

Breeding: Nest built with leaves, semi-spherical, supported (not hanging or between branches).
