En vuelo, mancha blanca en primarias. Dos apices de timoneras externas blancuzcas. Voz en vuelo parecido a "tchuííí" y "fui, fui, fui" (agudo, tono bajo)
Notablemente mayor a Setopagis parvula y menor que la hembra de Hydropsalis torquata.
