Sí bien está clasificada como paloma doméstica, la "paloma mensajera" es una variedad de la paloma bravía (Columba livia), según pude investigar y ver, su morfología es distinta de la común, son más corpulentas, cuello y cola más grandes, esqueleto fuerte, plumaje más abundante, además de ser más resistentes, pueden recorrer hasta 800km a 90 km p/h y posiblemente, su ADN sea distinto.
