Special edition of the Birding Challenge, exclusive for members of the Red de Pajareritos Argentinos y de América, which consists of bird watching and recording competitions within South America during 1 week of the 2024 winter holidays.
The regions to participate are: South America (Total region), regions by country (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela) and sub-regions for the Southern Cone: Patagonia (in Chile the regions of La Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes, and in Argentina the provinces of Neuquén, Rio Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego and the South Atlantic Islands), Argentine Coast (Formosa, Chaco, Santa Fe, Misiones, Corrientes and Entre Ríos), Argentine Northwest (Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca and Santiago del Estero), Cuyo (provinces of La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza and San Luis), Centro (Córdoba) and Pampas (Uruguay, and the provinces of La Pampa, Buenos Aires and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires).
There are three categories: the largest number of species observed, the largest number of species documented and the best records. The "largest number" categories can be followed day by day through the site's reports, while the results of the "best" categories will be posted in August.
How does it work? The support platform for the registration of this special competition is EcoRegistros, where, based on the records published by each participating team (duo), the rankings of competing teams for each of the regions in the "Observed" and "Documented" categories are automatically organized. In addition, the lists of species registered by each participating duo in each region are automatically compiled. They only have to publish the records of the bird species observed throughout the week included in the competition (July 15 to 21, 2024).
The material can be used in the Freebirds project to enrich the species guide.
Requirements to participate:
Be a member of the "Pajareritos" group, the most advanced group of the Argentine and American Pajareritos Network and express the will to play.
The Pajareritos coordination will organize the teams seeking to ensure the balance of regions and experience in the participating duos.
Once the duo is formed, it must register for the “Birding Challenge Pajareritos Invierno 2024” with an institutional user, whose nomenclature will be special for the competition (BC_Pajareritos [name]).
Participation is free.
It starts on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 0:00 a.m. and ends on July 21, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
All you need to do is enjoy bird watching and post your records!
