La pareja de Ipacahá emitía llamados de alarma para distraer la atención del observador y alertar a sus crías, al mismo tiempo los pichones permanecían ocultos e inmóviles. Se evita dar el lugar preciso debido a que los cazadores ilegales de la región utilizan estas herramientas para localizar sitios de caza.
